Marriage Workshop:
Blissful Marriage from A to Z

Target Audience Young Muslims contemplating marriage, newly married couples, married couples of all ages
Maximum Attendance We would like as many community members to benefit from the material provided in the workshop. However, a maximum of 300 attendees would be the acceptable limit insha’a Allah
Length A day and a half to two days
Format Eight sessions including lectures and interactive sessions (communication exercises and case studies)
Speakers/Facilitators Dr. Mohamed Rida Beshir and Dr. Ekram Beshir**
Cost Free! The hosting community is only expected to reimburse the speakers’ travel expenses (air tickets and taxis) and accommodate them in a modest hotel

Introduction to Marriage

Current facts and statistics from the hosting community are explored.

Expected time: 45 minutes

Beginning Steps

When is a person ready for Marriage? What should one look for in a Spouse? These are some questions that are addressed in this session.

Expected time: 60 minutes

Beginning Steps (continued)

In continuation of the previous session, we explore the lawful ways of getting to know someone or approaching someone you are interested in. We also emphasize the need of having an open communication channel between a parent and child on the topic of Marriage. This session is concluded with a Q&A period.

Expected time: 60 minutes

Spousal Obligations

This session starts with a group exercise for both sisters and brothers. The speaker then explains the roles, duties, and responsibilities of both spouses in Marriage.

Expected time: 90 minutes

Keys to a Successful Marriage

This session covers the main key ingredients of a successful marriage such as commitment to marriage success, trust and faithfulness, good communications, etc. The audience will also work on some exercises in communication. By the end, we will have detailed the elements needed to build family life on Mawadah and Rahmah.

Expected time: 120 minutes





Hands on experience

In this session, attendees are divided into groups and every group is given a case to study, analyze, and answer related questions using the knowledge gained from the previous sessions. The groups will present their analysis to all attendees with comments from both speakers.

Misconceptions of Marriage

How can we resolve marriage conflicts? What are the common reasons for divorce? These and other questions are addressed in this session.

Expected time: 60 minutes

Q&A Session and Concluding Remarks

The floor is open for questions and concluding remarks are made.

Expected time: 30 minutes

Note

  • An electronic multimedia projector to project on the screen from the speaker’s laptop is a must for the workshop.
  • A classroom setting is recommended, with sisters on one side of the hall and brothers in the other side. A Mosque prayer hall is not suitable for this function. Seats are a must, and tables are preferred. Light control is required to ensure better viewing.
  • For the full benefit, both parents are advised to attend the whole program; as such a baby-sitting program is very much recommended. It should include activities such as coloring, games, story telling, a light meal, etc.
  • The time allocated for presentations & workshops can not be shortened.
  • The two presentations complement each other, thus both parents should attend both presentations.
